Steel expanded grates are economical, easy to clean, and versatile. Care is a little more than the stainless grates in that they must be seasoned with oil for rust prevention similar to cast iron care.

Stainless free float round rod grates are easy to clean with a wet rag or grill pumice stone, versatile, and long lasting. 304 stainless is very rust resistant.

Stainless Argentine V grates have sloped v grate segments with a front drip pan. The grooves channel drippings to a catch pan to avoid flare ups. Ideal for fatty cuts of meat and skin on chicken. More work to keep clean than the first two otions. Use a v scraper tool or wire brush and drippings must be disposed of. 304 stainless material so very rust resistant.  

We pride ourselves on grills built for longevity. Metal, by nature, expands and contracts with heating and cooling. Continuous temperature changes up to 2000 degrees attempt to pull the material out of shape, also known as ‘warping’. Many grills you see online are built with materials that won’t stand up to multiple years of use. We produce grills with four sided fireboxes and supportive frame lips to resist these pressures. We offer durable grate options, high-quality, thick materials, durable stove paint, and superiour design to stand up to the rigors of wood fired cooking for years.

Aside from superior builds, we pride ourselves on function. As bbq enthusiasts ourselves, we know what works and what doesn’t. So many grills we’ve used over the years have grates that bind up, lifting mechanisms that are tricky to operate, and cooking temperatures hard to control. We have come up with designs that do not face these common issues. The grills we offer are tried and true designs that we use ourselves. You’ll be impressed with our quality.

If you’re regularly cooking for less than 10 people and up to 25 people, consider the 36″. For up to 35 people, consider the 48″. For up to 50 people, consider the 60″. For regularly cooking for over 50 people, consider the 72″. 

Keep in mind, size needs can vary depending on what you’re grilling. For expample, steaks feed more people per square ft than chicken halves. 

JD Fabrications grills are very versatile. Use your cooking hardwood of choice and/or briquettes or lump charcoal for unlimited flavor combinations.

We also have an option to add a log lighter to any grill, found in accessories. This does not make it a gas grill, but it’s an easy way to light your fuel quickly or reignite embers that have died down at the end of a cook. Compatible with propane or natural gas. 

Santa Maria Grills feature a 13-14″ deep firebox with brick lined floor. The firebox is 1/4″ thick, with the exception of some of the 36″ and smaller models at 3/16″ thick. Argentine Grills feature a 11-12″ deep firebox with completley brick lined walls and floor. The firebox is 3/16″ thick. Argentinian grills boast an upper warming/resting rack, which can be used for low heat cooking if a back wind block is added which will funnel heat upwards (found in accessories). 

Both grill styles essentially function the same way, with height adjustable cooking grates adjusted by a large hand wheel. Fuel is lit inside the firebox directly under the cooking grate, and grate height is adjsted to achieve desired cooking temperature. The ratchet crank system on both units stops the grate at the desired height. Both styles can accomodate a removable, height adjsutable rotisserie. Fuel can be added at any time during the cook as needed. The cooking grate lifts up and out of the way for easy access to scoop ash out once grilling is complete.  

Keeping your grill dry and scooping out ash after use are the best things you can do to aid in a grills longevity. When wet, ash is very corrosive. Store your grill under an overhang or patio cover, or consider a weatherproof cover to keep water from accumulating inside the firebox. We can recommend reputable manufacturers who make high quality bbq covers. 

Cooking grates should be brushed free of food particles after each use. Steel grates should be seasoned with oil after each use for rust protection, similar to the care of cast iron cookware. Stainless grills are naturally rust resistant, and only need to be seasoned before use as needed to prevent sticking. 

Steel Grills are a good choice for mild to moderate climates. They’re priced more economically than their stainless counterparts as the material and fabrication is less expensive than stainless. Steel grills are coated with a durable high temperature stove paint, rated to withstand temperatures of 1400 degrees F, and 2000 degrees F intermittent. Steel grills can last upwards of 20 years if cared for. 

Stainless Grills are suitable for any environment from dry to coastal or tropical. Built with 100% grade 304 stainless, they require far less care and last longer. Stainless grills come with a larger price tag as the material is much more expensive and they are more time consuming to produce. Most people consider our stainless grills to be the last they’ll ever need to buy. 

Want to go stainless, but can’t justify the cost? Many people find that a steel grill with a stainless cooking surface is a good compromise. 

• A Single Crank Grill has one, height adjustable cooking surface controlled by a single hand wheel.
• A Dual Crank Grill has two, independently adjustable cooking surfaces with hand wheels on each side of the unit.

Our lead times vary by season and demand, so please contact us to obtain our current lead time. In most cases you can expect your grill to ship within 3-6 weeks of purchase. We complete all projects in the order they are recieved. Transit times vary by location, typically 1-8 days. When your order ships we will provide tracking information, and the carrier will contact you directly to arrange a delivery appointment.
